Nationalparks in Australia and New Zealand:
The program:
Volunteer groups of 6-10 international participants will be supervised by experienced group leaders.
Project sites:
The participants may choose between those sites available. In case of a longer participation volonteers may choose to change sites on a weekly basis. Transport must then be arranged by the participant:
Australia:
- Victoria
- Queensland
- Tasmania
- New South Wales
- Australian Capital Territory
- Northern Australia
- Western Australia
- South Australia
New Zealand:
- Auckland
Tasks:
The volunteers will work in different sectors:
- trail maintenance and construction
- forest fuels Reduciton
- exotic species eradication
- nature surveys
- arid land, fire and riparian restoratoin
Board and Lodging:
The Lodging during the program will take place in e.g. tents, woodhutts, trailors or hostels.
The volunteers will prepare their own meals with their teams.
Equipment:
required:
- Backpack
- Sleepingbag
- Sleepingpad
- Minimum two waterbottles
- Workingboots (suited for long hikes)
- Raingear
- Sunblock
(Some of these items might be cheaper in Australia)
supplied:
- Tent
- Protective gear (helmet, gloves, earplugs, protective glasses)
recommended:
- Sunglasses
- Sunhat
- Alarm clock
- Clothing for every kind of weather
Requirements:
- Minimum age 18 years
- The orientation and security briefing on the first program day are compulsory!
- When in the country for more than 90 days: Visa
- Health insurance during the whole stay
- Englishskills
- Ability to work in a team
Acknowledgement:
Many students (e.g. of geology or forestry) may be able to get this program recognized for their studies or as an internship. (This should be discussed with the professor before leaving.)
In any case a certificate can be issued.
